The GFW School Board held a regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025. A summary of the meeting is below.

Superintendent’s Report
Superintendent Allen Berg shared that the partnership with Open Ed begins on January 5 with 125 new students who are waiting to be enrolled in that program. The district will see new revenue thanks to this partnership. Teachers will be voting on a contract this week with other negotiations coming up with paraprofessionals and food service teams with conversations scheduled for January.
Mr. Berg also shared that when planning for future school year calendars that the board should consider starting before Labor Day because it falls later for the next two years. The board will vote on calendars in February. The district is also in a strategic planning process with more than 700 surveys being submitted during the process. There will be a staff workshop taking place in January around the Strategic Plan.
Principal Reports
Principal Jacobson shared updates from the middle school and high school. Teachers are working through their inquiry cycles and adjusting goals as needed to strengthen student outcomes. Math teachers are participating in training while other staff are completing Read Act training. PBIS programming is continuing to see results with students taking advantage of perks for good behaviors and creating a strong sense of community throughout the school. Staff have been able to tour the new facility to see the spaces they will be in after the move in February. Students are sharing excitement about moving to the new facility.
Student Council Update
Student Council President Madyson Steele shared an update about sports beginning with lots of great competitions coming up. FFA also participated in winter career development events in a variety of areas and put in great effort to perform well. Students had a ton of fun during winter week as they got ready for break. National Honor Society is participating in a variety of service activities and helping to support student of the month recognitions. Students continue to receive SOAR tickets for good behavior and showing leadership with prize drawings taking place each month.
Lara Stegeman who is involved with NHS and Student Council also shared updates about the different activities that middle school will be taking part in as part of the PBIS efforts with upcoming reward days. She also shared about recent choir and band concerts and how groups are now preparing for competitions and other performances. She also shared about a recent activity where students learned about soil testing with GFW alumni Andrew Burns.
