Sibley County hosted GFW students last week for their annual Student Government Day.
Students were paired with mentors who work in the various agencies. Students experienced tours and presentations during the morning session which include a presentation from the Sheriff and a jail tour. They also got to take a tour of the courthouse from the County Administrator with stops at the Assessor's and Recorder's offices. They attended presentations from the Public Health Director, got an overview of Elections from the County Auditor, and spent time with Public Works which includes a tour of county vehicles.
In the afternoon students met with the judge, and participated in a mock trial led by the former county attorney. After the trial, the county commissioners helped students participate in a mock county board meeting.
Thank you to all the county officials and employees to take the day and show our students everything that goes into local government. It was a great experience for the students!
